We are often asked: Can a Real Estate Agent also be a Loan Officer?

The answer is Yes. The rules are simple. The main restriction is that you can not be BOTH a Real Estate Agent AND a Loan Officer in the same transaction if the Borrower is getting an FHA loan.

Which means you can not originate an FHA loan on a transaction where you are also a Real Estate Agent or Broker. And you can not be paid any compensation for an FHA loan if you are also receiving any compensation as a Real Estate Agent or Broker in that same transaction.

BUT you can be both Real Estate Agent and Loan Officer in the same transaction, and originate Conventional loans, Jumbo, and other types of loans not involving FHA for Your Real Estate Clients, as long as the required dual role disclosure notices are issued.

AND in any transaction where you are NOT involved as a Real Estate Agent, you can originate all types of loans including FHA, VA, USDA, Conventional, Jumbo, Reverse, and other types of Mortgage loans.
